Let's face it, so many women struggle with the feeling of being comfortable in their own skin and body. Constantly striving to meet the "perfect" and "goal" body we saw on models or on social media. The truth is, we are all only human, we all have flaws and that is okay! We have days that we eat 100 cheat meals in a day and having bad cravings for chocolate or in my case, bubble tea.
Sharing a little story of mine with you, two years ago after finishing up my first year of University, I realized the saying of "Freshman 15" was not a lie. I was at my heaviest weight of 150 pounds or 68kg. Which is considered slightly overweight for a girl that is 5'5. Yes, this is when I became super self conscious over everything I wear and eat, I was scared that people will judge me for being a "big" girl. I have already developed bad eating habits, it was so hard for me to eat less. I tried out many different styles of dieting and spending hours in the gym everyday. I realized that I was seeking to be better in other people's eyes rather than my own.
Many of us seek approval of self through others. But what is most important is self approval and acceptance, being comfortable with yourself, accepting your flaws and yourself as a whole. You have to understand that the longest relationship that you will ever have is the relationship with yourself. We often pick on ourselves rather than embracing ourselves for who we are.
In the past two years, despite I lost 20lbs in the last two years. But, it does not necessary make me happier, love myself or accept myself. I was constantly feeling not being "good enough". I am not saying I am 100% comfortable with my current skin and body. But, I realized that I need to accept myself and love myself better. Accepting the fact that I have bigger bones and slower metabolism. There are things you can and can't change about yourself. Work on the things that you can change about yourself, such as better eating habits, frequency of going to the gym and meal portion control. Don't stress over the things that you can't change, embrace it! Self improving and acceptance comes within self.
